LIGHTSCAPE
This project was developed during the Ephemeral/Temporary Spaces Design Studio with professors Anna Barbara and Ron Gilad.
The site of the project is the courtyard of one of the university’s buildings.
LIGHTSCAPE aims to enhance the sunlight changes inside the space and to use them as a tool to improve the quality of the courtyard. Through a project that is responsive to sunlight we approach the space in a dynamic way, not forgetting about the night time, when artificial light switches role with the sun activating the installation. The protagonist is the dichroic film, which reacts to light in an unconventional way. We can see different colors of this material depending on the position of the light source and on the point of view, resulting into an ever-changing surface. The project also aims to a reinterpretation of the rigid geometry of the existing void, trying to change it into a more fluid environment through the definition of new curved and blurred borders. The “waves”, made of compact polycarbonate and dichroic film, follow the rythm of the facade, being less wide in correspondence of the windows, in order to let air and light get inside freely.
